This week in Maths, we learnt how to draw scale drawings. We also revised converting between different metric measurements and converted between imperial units too. In English, we planned and wrote our own traditional story set in a different culture, focusing on using descriptive vocabulary and develop characterisation to entertain the reader.

 

In PSHE this week, we discussed how we could improve our self esteem if we were feeling about negative about ourselves. The police also visited again this week and we learnt about how to stay safe online. In Geography, we learnt about the features of rivers and used atlases to find the mouth and source of some rivers in the UK. In Science, we looked at the evidence which helps to prove that the Earth is spherical in shape and in RE, we learnt about the roles and responsibilities of a Jewish rabbi.

 

Next week in English, we will start our new book, The Misadventures of Frederick and we will look at the features of persuasive letters. In Maths, we will learn about proportion and scaling and will solve some problems.

Highlights of the Week (Wb 22.04.25)

For our PSHE this week, the police came in to talk to us about antisocial behaviour. They also talked to us about their role in the community. The children tried on some police jackets. in Music this week, we started our lessons playing the cornets.

We had some great costumes for World Book Day this week... ... and the children talked very enthusiastically about their favourite books.

In Science this week we investigated friction. We were trying to find out if the force needed to pull a shoe across different surfaces... ...was different.

In Art this week, we used brush techniques and the quality of the paint to create tone.

In Maths this week, we worked as a group to match some units of measurements. In Science, we investigated air resistance. We made some parachutes which would use air resistance to slow down the fall of an egg... ... to stop it from breaking. Some parachutes were more successful than others!

In English this week, the children worked in pairs to create a persuasive speech... ... for the characters in our new book, 'Wolves in the Walls'. In History, we looked at clues to work out where the Vikings came from... ... when they came to Britain and why they came here.

We enjoyed our Christmas dinner today! Everybody looked fabulous in their Christmas outfits!

Highlights of the Week (Wb 02.12.24)

In Science this week, we were learning about irreversible changes. We mixed some bicarbonate of soda to some vinegar and made careful observations. We noticed that the vinegar began to fizz and bubble up. We realised that a gas had been made so we knew that a chemical reaction had taken place. We knew then, that an irreversible change had taken place. In Maths, we played a matching game. We matched some fractions to their pictorial image. We also matched to fractions to their equivalent measure in money or length.

Congratulations to our Achievement Certificate winners for this week! In Art this week, we drew some Anglo Saxon jewellery designs.

Electric Umbrella were absolutely amazing this week! In PSHE, we looked at the difference between direct bullying and indirect bullying. We also discussed what we could do if we thought someone was being bullied.

In Science this week, we investigated different materials... ... to see which one was the best thermal insulator. We measured the temperature of warm water over time to see which one stayed the warmest... ... for longer when the container was wrapped in different materials.

For Cultural Day on Monday, some people shared some special items from home. In Music this week, we used the glockenspiels to play in time to a simple beat.

In Science this week, we planned a fair test. We investigated if the temperature of the water affected the speed of salt dissolving.

Highlights of the Week (Wb16.09.24)

In Science this week, we investigated mixing materials together. We found out which solids dissolved in water and which did not. Then we thought about how we could get those materials back again. We tried sieving and filtering.

In DT this week, we tasted some ingredients in preparation for cooking savoury muffins. We evaluated them for smell, taste and texture. We had a lot of fun tasting the ingredients.
